The small town of Bevan was established to serve Number 7 Mine 4 miles north-west of Cumberland.The school was opened October 1913 with 71 pupils, the teacher was Mrs Alice Nunns. The end of the school came in 1957 when Bevan School was demolished, following the demise of a community which had a short but interesting life.
