The first recorded Empire Days Celebration was held on Saturday, May 23rd, 1891. The event was held to help celebrate Queen Victoria’s birthday and was named for Queen Victoria and her British Empire. It has been held annually ever since and each year a May Queen is chosen. This photo shows the May Queen chosen for 1947.
